Incorporated in 1964, the American Liszt Society is dedicated to advancing the legacy of 19th-century Hungarian composer and pianist Franz Liszt through performance, scholarship, and education. With more than 300 members and 21 active chapters across the United States, the Society fosters a deeper appreciation for Liszt’s artistic contributions and his far-reaching influence on music and culture.
Each year, the American Liszt Society hosts an annual festival that brings together members, emerging artists, and distinguished guest performers to celebrate Liszt’s life and work. These events rotate among universities across the country and often include Hungarian artists and scholars, reinforcing the Society’s international scope and cultural mission.
In 2025, with support from the Tulipán Foundation, they will present their annual festival under the theme “Liszt and Women”, exploring the profound impact of women on Liszt’s personal and artistic journey. Taking place from October 23–25 at East Tennessee State University, the event will feature performances, lectures, and recitals that highlight women’s creative contributions from the 19th century to today, while fostering cultural ties between Hungary and the U.S.
